Technology is changing how we learn, work, create, and solve problems. As these tools become more powerful, knowing how to use them is only part of the work. Equally important is considering how we use them with care, responsibility, and awareness of the relationships and impacts that surround us.
This space was created for Indigenous people and organizations to explore how AI can support and strengthen our cultures, lands, languages, and ways of being for future generations. Technology and Indigenous ways of knowing can each offer valuable perspectives on innovation, responsibility, and change. Together, they can help guide how we learn about AI, explore its possibilities, and make thoughtful decisions about how and when to use it.
Learning Through Two Lenses
Throughout each resource, consider what you’re learning through two complementary perspectives.
The Technology Lens encourages exploring possibility, innovation, and capability.
The Indigenous Lens encourages reflection on relationship, responsibility, and long-term impact.
Neither lens is complete on its own. Together, they encourage thoughtful decision-making by asking not only:
"What can we do?"
but also:
"How do we move forward in a good way?"
These perspectives are complementary, and they each offer something valuable. Together, they invite learners to explore innovation with greater awareness, balancing technical capability with thoughtful reflection. By considering both lenses, learners strengthen their ability to make decisions that are informed, intentional, and grounded in responsibility.
Why It Matters
Technology gives us the ability to build, create, automate, and innovate. Indigenous ways of knowing cultivate the discernment to use that ability wisely. When innovation is guided only by capability, we risk overlooking the broader impacts on people, communities, and the natural world. When innovation is guided by both knowledge and wisdom, new possibilities can emerge that are thoughtful, sustainable, and rooted in care.
